How I Got Here...Mommy's Piggy Tales #1

My birth & how I got my name...

Obviously I have no memories of this experience, so I enlisted the help of my mom. She went through the details with me the other day so I knew what happened! Thanks to some different lady business complications, they didn't know my exact due date. She was given due dates ranging from August 1 to September 15. I decided to make my big debut on August 29, which was incidentally the day after my parent's 2nd wedding anniversary!

My dad was taking classes at a local university and my mom had accompanied him to class this particular night after their anniversary dinner because this was before cell phones & they just didn't know when to expect me! My mom walked around the campus & my dad went to class. My mom found her way to the campus bookstore & was looking at anniversary cards when she suddenly felt something running down her leg. She initially thought she was having a bladder control issue (common in late pregnancy unfortunately), but quickly realized what was happening. She walked back across campus to find my dad & upon arriving at his classroom, announced to his entire class of more than 200 students that her water broke & they were  having a baby NOW.

They made it to the hospital - but not before being pulled over by campus cops for speeding - and my mom's water fully broke as she got out of the car. My dad left her standing, legs apart, in the middle of the parking lot while he ran in to get a wheelchair. Mom got settled in at the hospital & was started on Pitocin at 9:00pm to get things moving along. By 2:00am she was only 3cm & asked for a morphine drip. She finally started pushing that morning & pushed for an hour, but I didn't budge. (I've always been rather strong-willed.) I went into distress & mom was having her own complications, so I was delivered by c-section at 10:42am on August 29! Mom & I were I were in the hospital for the next week because of mom's c-section and my jaundice. They have video of me in the hospital under the bilirubin lights pushing up with my hands to look around. (See, strong right from the beginning.)

They didn't know if I was a boy or a girl, so they chose the name Cameron because they found it in a baby name book & loved it for either a boy or a girl. My middle name is a family name that goes back several generations.

Apparently I was a good baby who nursed well, although I had my days & nights mixed up for the first 2 weeks. I slept through the night the first day of my 3rd month. Pretty fabulous, if I do say so myself. Yay for me! The world has never been the same since...

You actually got pulled over driving to the hospital??? That is awesome! I always wanted that to happen to me so I could scream at the cop for being an idiot and I'm having a baby for the love of god!!!!

Awesome!

10 on Tuesday: 10 Favorite 6 Month Pics

This is completely gratuitous, just me posting pictures of Isis, but my friend Hannah took some pictures of our family yesterday! She is such a great photographer & she is also going to be watching Isis for me in the fall when I start my student teaching. I feel so blessed to have her as a friend on top of the fact that she takes gorgeous pictures of Isis!! I also realized that I didn't put any of the ones where she is smiling in this post. This just means I'll have to post more another time! Get excited! (And this is not a great comment-grabbing post , but who cares? This is for the digital baby book!)
