It's All About Perspective

Lewis & I were talking yesterday about how fast everything is going with Isis. We were actually talking about changing diapers specifically and somehow it turned into a conversation about how fast things were going and about our perspectives. For example, with the diapers, Lewis and I had both read about some studies that were done that showed that children bonded and felt more connected to the people who changed their diapers because it's such an intimate and also very necessary part of their day. You can tell in the way they look at the person changing their diapers. There is another study that we read that showed that specifically dads who got involved with the details, like changing diapers, from birth impacted the child's academic achievement throughout life. It just set a tone for involvement and attention throughout the child's life. How does this relate to anything, you may ask? Well, I'll tell you. Lewis said he had been thinking about all these milestones ...

Gro Baby Diapers

We have decided on the cloth diapers we want to use! I am very aware that cloth diapers are not for everyone and I fully support any parent's decision to choose what works best for them. For many people - actually most people probably - cloth offers more of a hassle than it is really worth. And that makes sense to me. Lewis and I have just decided after lots of discussion and thought that cloth diapers is the way we want to go. We have been so blessed to find a wonderful woman who is going to watch our baby in the spring and she is completely fine with doing cloth with us! I am so happy about that!! I realize the poopy diapers will not be the most fun, but I guess the way I see it I'll be dealing with poopy diapers either way. I've just chosen to go a route where I'm throwing the diaper into a washing machine rather than into a trash can. (Extra rinse, hot water and some oxy-clean should be just fine!) I have heard from several people in my mom's generation that the...

Cloth Diapers?

Lewis and I had discussed cloth diapers before and we'd both thought they seemed like a good idea, but we didn't know anyone who used them and we just didn't have enough information on them in general. I recently read a discussion board about cloth diapers that a friend of mine posted on Facebook. Suddenly I found 8 or 9 different people who had used cloth diapers and loved them! They had brands and specific items they had used! It completely recharged my interest in cloth diapers! They are more expensive to begin with than regular diapers, like 1 diaper is about $11 - $25 depending on the brand while a pack of disposable diapers can be about that much. BUT, you wash and reuse the cloth diapers where you only need about 2 dozen for a year - until they grow out of them - and then you can use the same diapers for your next baby. From what I could tell after reading the information from the people on the discussion board, it costs less than half what disposable diapers cost in...
