I feel very blessed to have some wonderful friends. I also feel blessed to be meeting some more fabulous moms through blogging! I'll be posting some links on Friday - be sure to come back & check them out!!
But I was reading this quote today & it got me thinking - this is the way we should all think of our friendships - if they are real friendships. I wonder sometimes how strong a friendship can be if you don't really trust someone. I feel incredibly blessed to know that I have some friendships that are stronger than my darkest moments and are not limited by my inability to be everything I should be. Friendships should be places we are free to be honest and open. We should never be afraid that what we say or do will break them because they are stronger than all of that. I have some friends I trust completely with my secrets, my fears, my struggles, my mistakes, my past and my future. I hope you have some similar friendships in your life.
As a mom, I'm finding I value these friendships even more because it is so easy for other moms to be threatened or defensive when discussing parenting strategies or advice. It's so easy to think one way is the "right" way or the "only" way, but the only "right" way is the way that works for the individual baby or family. The specifics of that will change from baby to baby, from mom to mom, from family to family. As I continue in this crazy journey of motherhood, I am learning to really value those friends who are sticking with me through it. The friends who don't have babies have been so generous & flexible with me & Isis as we adjust to life together. I've even had a few free babysitters!! The friends with babies have been willing to work through my issues as I struggle day to day to do what is best for Isis. Again, I sincerely hope that you have similar friendships in your life and I hope that I am able to connect with some more moms through blogging!!
