Are you a Teacher??

Hello, readers. I have been diligently (read: obsessively) researching and planning things for my classroom! If you don't know already, I was recently hired to my first teaching position in 4th grade! School starts August 10 and I'm going in on Tuesdays and Fridays right now to set up my classroom! It is a little overwhelming to come in and set up for the first year! But at the same time, it's exciting because it's like a blank slate! I can start fresh!

So here's where you come in. I know that many of the people I follow are teachers, but I'm wondering if anyone who follows me is a teacher. I have questions and am looking for ideas and what I've loved so much about this blog so far is the community and the people I've met! I feel comfortable asking questions to you all! (Feel special.)

Hi,

I have been following your blog for quit some time now. I have been in and out of the bloggy world though so I have not spoke up much at all. But I love to see a new teacher's love for teaching and the excitement of getting the year started. I am a teacher myself, although I am currently on a leave of absense to care for my two boys. Before taking leave I had been teaching for 9 years. I have taught 5th, 3rd and 1st grades as well as work as a resource teacher. I would be happy to help out in anyway. Good luck with your first year.

I am - not in a traditional sense. I tutor privately from my home. I tutor Croatians wanting to learn English and also give piano/voice lessons. I am on a break right now for the summer, and am not sure what to do about fall yet, since I'll be close to my due date. But after my "maternity break" I plan to start heavily advertising "Skype lessons". It's an idea I got earlier this year.

I have always loved teaching and either worked as a Sunday school teacher at church, daycare/preschool teacher...at one time I owned my own music studio. It's something I always played as a child...I suppose it's just deep down in me to teach somebody something. :)

Congrats on the position!!! You have such an awesome opportunity to make a difference in children's lives!

I haven't been in the classroom for 2 years, but the best non-content advice someone gave me was to decorate your room in a non-detailed way. So many teachers spend a good bulk of time decorating and re-decorating for the seasons. Pick a theme or color scheme and just do it with that (so not Halloween or Valentine's Day).

Also, incorporate student work as much as possible in your displays. They are obsessed with looking at their own work on the wall or door.

This is completely gratuitous, just me posting pictures of Isis, but my friend Hannah took some pictures of our family yesterday! She is such a great photographer & she is also going to be watching Isis for me in the fall when I start my student teaching. How to Efficiently Read Blogs

Have you ever been just completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of blogs out there you can read? I have. Wow. So many fabulous people I'm interested in reading about! I love the stories, the humor, the pictures, the tips, the giveaways, the links, I just love it all! So I've found myself having to streamline my blog reading in order to better manage my time & make sure I hit the "must-reads" for me. Here's how I've done it: First of all, if you leave a comment on my blog or if you follow my blog, I will go to your blog & at the very least I will follow you on Google Friend Connect . This way the blog shows up on my blogger dashboard when I log in. I always look over the new posts that are there when I log in each day, but if you've looked at my Google Friend Connect page lately, you'll see that I follow a lot of people's blogs! So I had to come up with a more specific approach in addition to the blogger dashboard. This is where my Goog

5 Blogging Pet Peeves

Blogging pet peeves are obviously going to be different depending on the blogger or blog reader. I am not an expert, but I have been blogging for more than 3 years between this blog & my other one. So I've seen a lot of blogs & read a lot of tips. Here are 5 things from my perspective that will really help you as a blogger &  me as a reader. 1. Offer a full RSS feed Oh my goodness this gets on my nerves!! I don't know if people think that offering a partial feed will get people to click on their page more or something? But really all it does it gets most people from what I've seen to NOT subscribe or visit your blog at all. There are maybe 2 bloggers that I subscribe to their feed even if they don't offer a full feed & that's only because they email & converse with me regularly & in some way make up for the fact that I can't see their feed in my reader. So just offer a full feed.  There is some debate about the issue, but in every debate
