30 Day Shred

Continuing with my thoughts about parenting on purpose, I've decided to make some changes in my life! For one, I need to start exercising. I hate exercising. I hate almost everything about it. I don't like taking the time to do it. I don't think it's fun. I don't like going to the gym and feeling self-conscious. I just really don't like it. Exercising was also not something that was cultivated in me throughout my life.

Lewis, on the other hand, has been working out regularly since he was young - I think maybe 13 is when he said he remembers regularly doing some form of regular physical activity other than just the playing that a kid does. Ever since I've known him, he's made a point to work out about every other day. He'll run, lift weights, etc. We have a treadmill and a whole slew of weight lifting equipment in our basement, as well as two different kinds of punching bags. He kick-boxed for a while in college. He also completed the P90X stuff a couple of months ago! That was intense, but he did it all!

I decided that it was important for me to model some discipline in exercising so that Isis wasn't just seeing it from Lewis. I didn't want to leave her with a handicap of sorts where she sees dad work out, but mom just isn't active & she thinks that's okay. I also want to be preparing my body for a healthy life so that I can be there for Isis, any future children and grandchildren. I want her to learn that it's important to exercise and be active because it's important to be healthy.

So I've started the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. The things I like about it are:
It's quick, so I can do it in about 25 minutes a day.
It's easy to do in my living room while Isis plays around me.
It kicks my butt in a good way.

I'm on Day 6. So far I'm really proud of myself & I'm really happy with the workout! I was really sore the first 2 days, but I think my body is starting to adjust. I've set some goals for myself with this. If I continue doing it the entire 30 days, I'm going to either buy some cute workout clothes or a new pair of sneakers. If I continue working out regularly for 6 months, then Lewis said I can get an elliptical machine (off of Craigslist)!

What kind of exercise do you do?
Are you a member of a gym or do you work out at home?
What kind of health goals or disciplines do you hope to teach your children?

My husband and I just started doing P90X together a few days ago. I love that it's a different workout everyday, and he loves that I'm working out with him. Since we exercise before I get the kids up from their afternoon nap, he's been calling it our workout date!

Good luck and keep motivated!

I feel the exact same way as you about exercising. Not that I don't enjoy physical activity -- I used to be a dancer and miss it terribly. But working out just to lose weight is terribly boring to me.

Like you though, I realize the need to be healthy and be a good role model for my child. Love 30-Day Shred for a quick but effective workout! I also play this Wii dance game that definitely burns some calories.

I feel the exact same way about exercise. Ugh! But I know it's important. I need to find a good video to do (can't do a gym right now) but it's tricky because I definitely don't need to lose weight - I just need to gain muscle. Anything high in cardio burns too many calories for me. So I just haven't done anything. Sigh.

10 on Tuesday: 10 Favorite 6 Month Pics

This is completely gratuitous, just me posting pictures of Isis, but my friend Hannah took some pictures of our family yesterday! She is such a great photographer & she is also going to be watching Isis for me in the fall when I start my student teaching. I feel so blessed to have her as a friend on top of the fact that she takes gorgeous pictures of Isis!! I also realized that I didn't put any of the ones where she is smiling in this post. This just means I'll have to post more another time! Get excited! (And this is not a great comment-grabbing post , but who cares? This is for the digital baby book!) How to Efficiently Read Blogs

Have you ever been just completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of blogs out there you can read? I have. Wow. So many fabulous people I'm interested in reading about! I love the stories, the humor, the pictures, the tips, the giveaways, the links, I just love it all! So I've found myself having to streamline my blog reading in order to better manage my time & make sure I hit the "must-reads" for me. Here's how I've done it: First of all, if you leave a comment on my blog or if you follow my blog, I will go to your blog & at the very least I will follow you on Google Friend Connect . This way the blog shows up on my blogger dashboard when I log in. I always look over the new posts that are there when I log in each day, but if you've looked at my Google Friend Connect page lately, you'll see that I follow a lot of people's blogs! So I had to come up with a more specific approach in addition to the blogger dashboard. This is where my Goog

5 Blogging Pet Peeves

Blogging pet peeves are obviously going to be different depending on the blogger or blog reader. I am not an expert, but I have been blogging for more than 3 years between this blog & my other one. So I've seen a lot of blogs & read a lot of tips. Here are 5 things from my perspective that will really help you as a blogger &  me as a reader. 1. Offer a full RSS feed Oh my goodness this gets on my nerves!! I don't know if people think that offering a partial feed will get people to click on their page more or something? But really all it does it gets most people from what I've seen to NOT subscribe or visit your blog at all. There are maybe 2 bloggers that I subscribe to their feed even if they don't offer a full feed & that's only because they email & converse with me regularly & in some way make up for the fact that I can't see their feed in my reader. So just offer a full feed.  There is some debate about the issue, but in every debate
