Isis is sick.

We made it almost 8 months with no sickness at all! I was starting to think my breastmilk was magical! But alas, it is not. Of course my first day of student teaching would be the day she finally gets sick. Lewis noticed she seemed different this morning. She woke up in the middle of the night last night & he also knew then that she wasn't feeling well. This morning he said she was quiet & had a runny nose & her eyes were all red. We both thought it was allergies, but when I picked her up from the babysitter's house today after school got out, I thought she had a fever.

We ended up going to the doctor & she had a fever of 101.3!! She has an upper respiratory viral infection, so no antibiotics. Just Tylenol. Poor little thing is finally wanting to cuddle & be held & I can't cuddle her all day! So funny that just a week or so ago I was reading Livy's blog as she talked about her little one being sick & finally wanting to be cuddled again! Now I am where she was, but I have to continue student teaching, so I can't cuddle Isis all day tomorrow. Again, SO thankful to have a wonderful babysitter that I trust & that Isis is absolutely loving!! It's very helpful in situations like this!

By the way, did I mention she threw up all over me tonight? It was our first vomit situation. It was not my favorite. I almost cried - not because it was on me, but rather because Isis got really upset about it. Seriously, poor thing!!! I just want to go get her out of her crib & cuddle her right now! But she was exhausted when we put her to bed. I know she needs to sleep.

So any tips for helping a baby girl with a stuffy nose?

The best thing you can do for her nose is that plungy thing they give you at the hospital, it will become your lifesaver! Suck her nose out as often as necessary so no boogies clog her up!

When I got one for Vanessa, my oldest (Courtney) was SO excited because she loves to have her nose cleaned out with one of those when she is not feeling good because sometimes blowing just doesnt do the job!!

And just cuddle her as much as you can and keep her warm! Sweating helps you get better faster as odd as that sounds.

Im sorry your snuggle bug is sick! I hope she gets better ASAP!

We use either the Baby Rub by Vicks, on the chest (yeah it gets all over the clothes, but I think it helps some). We also got a Vapo plug thingy, you plug it in an outlet, and it releases the same sorta smell that the rub has, and it helps some too, minus all the gunky rub! I really felt it made a difference. You can also slightly prop up the crib on one end, just put a pillow or something under it, though Z is such a crazy sleeper, he never stayed in the same position and would end up sideways on the mattress making it ineffective.
Good luck! I hope she gets better fast, colds are so hard on everyone. I always feel awful because as a baby they don't understand what is going on and just feel awful! Thankfully we know it will soon pass!
Oh man this is no fun. Since kingston was born early and in the winter he got sick when he was a newborn it was soo sad. So i've been through this. Poor baby girl!! I am soo sorry :(

Put a humidafier (spell?) in her room those help a ton. Let it run all the time while she is a sicky. Use the vicks baby vapor rub too and if it gets way bad you can run your shower to the hottest setting and close the door so the steam fills up the room go back in 10 minutes later with her and have someone else put a towel on the otherside so the steam doesn't escape and rock her in there. The steam will clear her out a ton.

Hope this helps. Hugs to you mom that is no fun at all! :( I'm soo not excited for this cold/flu season at all.

Oh no! Poor Isis and poor Cameron! Hang in there girl! Let us know how the student teaching is going. Take care of yourself too!
It's been a long time for me, but I do remember the nose (sucker) plungy thing helps.

Poor thing! S got sick for the first time recently and it isn't fun. Use saline before sucking the snot out of her nose, it will loosen it up. If you are having trouble with the bulb saringe (spell?), try the Nose Friday...so much easier! I don't even try the bulb saringe any more.

Ask your Dr. but if you are having a tough time getting the fever to break, you can alternate between tylenol and ibuprofen.

Hope she feels better soon!

That is supposed to say "Nose Frida". Not Friday.

Aw, I'm sorry! Having sick babes is the worst! Just keep dosing the tylenol (and alternate with ibuprofen every 4 hours if the dr. says it's ok) and keep an eye on her fever. If it lasts more than 3 days take her back for a recheck. Sometimes ear infections don't show up for awhile.

Breast is the answer to everything in our household and the sucking seems to help unblock the nose as well as comfort. If my daughter's nose is too blocked and she can't suck, then we know we are in trouble. Vicks did wonders for my son, but doesn't work as well for my daughter. Hope Isis gets better soon.

vicks humidifier. great help when the babies are stuffy. my 12 year old even borrows it when she feels stuffy. vapor baths always work for Damian. So sorry she's sick. Hope your first day of teaching was still a good day even with Isis on your mind.

dealing with vomit is ALWAYS the WORST! and the first sickness is the hardest for parents to handle.

she couldn't have picked worse timing, could she? :)

Poor Isis! Breastmilk is still magical -- I'm sure it will help her get through this discomfort at least. We also use the Vicks vaporizer which seems to help. And we just got an all natural chest rub, but I forget the name. Q is also getting over a cold. Hope they both get well soon!

Aww I hope she's feeling better Cameron. Its always seems to be harder on the parents when kids are sick. Do what the doctor prescribed and all the suggestions from your readers are really good too.

awww poor sweet baby girl! It's definitely tough knowing when your baby is sick. I remember heading back to teaching after my first daughter was born and the first time she was sick blahhh it was so hard. I was a crying mess LOL ((HUGS))

Poor baby! It's always hard when your little ones don't feel good. What always worked for us when my kids were congested: saline drops, the bulb syringe, a humidifier, and sleeping elevated (like a little wedge or something under her mattress.)

Hope Isis feels better soon. We used to roll a towel up at the head of Ivy's bed and put it under the mattress to elevate her head a bit. Sometimes she even fell asleep in the swing or bouncer (gasp!!) because she could breath better sitting up. Hope it clears up soon!

Oh I'm so sorry Cameron and vomiting is the worst! I remember my son right around this age having the first vomiting episode. I hope she gets through this quickly and I'm so glad you have a sitter that you both love :) I used those bulb suctions too, right before feeding and sleeping. Extra cuddles and kisses always help too, good luck:)

Awww poor girl. I hope she feels better soon, but you definately have magical breast milk if this is her first time getting sick in 8 months. Really that's incredible. Babies are more prone to getting sick because they have under developed immune systems that it's almost inevitable. The fact that Isis went 8 months sickness free shows you're doing a great job.

Stay strong. You're a wonderful mama!

10 on Tuesday: 10 Favorite 6 Month Pics

This is completely gratuitous, just me posting pictures of Isis, but my friend Hannah took some pictures of our family yesterday! She is such a great photographer & she is also going to be watching Isis for me in the fall when I start my student teaching. I feel so blessed to have her as a friend on top of the fact that she takes gorgeous pictures of Isis!! I also realized that I didn't put any of the ones where she is smiling in this post. This just means I'll have to post more another time! Get excited! (And this is not a great comment-grabbing post , but who cares? This is for the digital baby book!) How to Efficiently Read Blogs

Have you ever been just completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of blogs out there you can read? I have. Wow. So many fabulous people I'm interested in reading about! I love the stories, the humor, the pictures, the tips, the giveaways, the links, I just love it all! So I've found myself having to streamline my blog reading in order to better manage my time & make sure I hit the "must-reads" for me. Here's how I've done it: First of all, if you leave a comment on my blog or if you follow my blog, I will go to your blog & at the very least I will follow you on Google Friend Connect . This way the blog shows up on my blogger dashboard when I log in. I always look over the new posts that are there when I log in each day, but if you've looked at my Google Friend Connect page lately, you'll see that I follow a lot of people's blogs! So I had to come up with a more specific approach in addition to the blogger dashboard. This is where my Goog...
