Switching to Disqus

I'm just about to switch all my comments to Disqus. I really really hope this doesn't mess up all the comments I already have! I've been told by Disqus that it won't, but Queenie at The Planet Pink lost all her old comments. If it does delete all my old comments, you'll probably be able to hear me cry from wherever you are.

We'll see...

The reason I'm interested in switching is because I can reply to specific comments & it will email my response & just so you know - if you get an email with a response to your comment, you can just reply back to your email & it will post in my comments section! You don't have to go back to my post to reply! How cool is that??

Anybody else use Disqus?
Do you like it??

I have Intense Debate and I am seriously considering switching to Disquis. I can't right now though b/c I have giveaways going on and I'm scared it will delete all of the comments.

Hi Nicole,

We have an import process for intense debate comments, nothing will be lost =)

You can find it here: http://disqus.com/comments/tools/

I hope it works for you! I have no complaints about Disqus with the exception of losing my old comments. If I had known they were going to disappear I would have saved them somehow first. Ah well, c'est la vie. You're going to love Disqus though.

hmmm... now vanita has me wondering if I should take the widget out and try to import the comments first, and then reinstall??
I know nothing of this Disqus you speak of but I see it all the time. I'm not on Blogger or Wordpress so this stuff is all kinda Greek to me. Sorry!

I just looked at it and it looks quite nice. I wonder, can you still use CommentLuv? I'm on Wordpress too so I'll have to look into it further. Thanks for the tip.

I just installed this - all my comments went to "0", but I have the "recent comments" section on the side of my blog - so at least I can see the latest ones. :)
I just heard recently (in doing research for an article on DISQUS) that if you decide that you don't like it, you will LOSE all of your comments if you switch away from DISQUS in the future. Not ideal!

I know WordPress has plugins to allow you to reply to comments via e-mail - Blogger doesn't?

Alyna - I'm definitely second guessing this decision because I'm having a hard time importing my old comments to Disqus & I did install t he widget once & it showed all my comments as 0, so I deleted it & they're back. Now I'm not doing it again unless I can import.

Blogger doesn't have plugins at all. It is possibly to reply to comments & it goes to the person's email if they have one connected to the account they signed in with, but a lot of people don't. And if you reply to your email notification of the comment, it just emails the person - doesn't post it to your comments section. I liked that with Disqus, I'd get an email notification of a new comment & if I replied, it would post it back in my comments section & I'd never have to go back to the actual post.
Hello,

I came upon your post because I'm asking Google how to get my comments back after removing Disqus. I see that you're back with Blogger format again - did you end up losing comments?

I did download an XML of my comments before I uninstalled, but I don't know how to load them.

10 on Tuesday: 10 Favorite 6 Month Pics

This is completely gratuitous, just me posting pictures of Isis, but my friend Hannah took some pictures of our family yesterday! She is such a great photographer & she is also going to be watching Isis for me in the fall when I start my student teaching. I feel so blessed to have her as a friend on top of the fact that she takes gorgeous pictures of Isis!! I also realized that I didn't put any of the ones where she is smiling in this post. This just means I'll have to post more another time! Get excited! (And this is not a great comment-grabbing post , but who cares? This is for the digital baby book!) How to Efficiently Read Blogs

Have you ever been just completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of blogs out there you can read? I have. Wow. So many fabulous people I'm interested in reading about! I love the stories, the humor, the pictures, the tips, the giveaways, the links, I just love it all! So I've found myself having to streamline my blog reading in order to better manage my time & make sure I hit the "must-reads" for me. Here's how I've done it: First of all, if you leave a comment on my blog or if you follow my blog, I will go to your blog & at the very least I will follow you on Google Friend Connect . This way the blog shows up on my blogger dashboard when I log in. I always look over the new posts that are there when I log in each day, but if you've looked at my Google Friend Connect page lately, you'll see that I follow a lot of people's blogs! So I had to come up with a more specific approach in addition to the blogger dashboard. This is where my Goog

5 Blogging Pet Peeves

Blogging pet peeves are obviously going to be different depending on the blogger or blog reader. I am not an expert, but I have been blogging for more than 3 years between this blog & my other one. So I've seen a lot of blogs & read a lot of tips. Here are 5 things from my perspective that will really help you as a blogger &  me as a reader. 1. Offer a full RSS feed Oh my goodness this gets on my nerves!! I don't know if people think that offering a partial feed will get people to click on their page more or something? But really all it does it gets most people from what I've seen to NOT subscribe or visit your blog at all. There are maybe 2 bloggers that I subscribe to their feed even if they don't offer a full feed & that's only because they email & converse with me regularly & in some way make up for the fact that I can't see their feed in my reader. So just offer a full feed.  There is some debate about the issue, but in every debate
